Wedding band vs engagement ring size
In most cases your wedding band is the same size as your engagement ring, since they sit on the same finger. But band width, wearing them stacked, and timing can change the ideal size — worth checking before you buy.

When they match
If both rings are similar widths and worn together as designed, the same size is usually right. Many couples simply order the wedding band in the engagement ring’s size.
When to adjust
- Wide wedding band: a wide band fits tighter — size up a quarter to half size versus a thin engagement ring.
- Stacking two rings: two bands together can feel snugger; some people size the pair up slightly.
- Time gap: if there’s a long engagement, re-measure before ordering the band — fingers change.
- Contoured/shadow bands: these nest against the engagement ring and usually match its size.
Get both right
Measure for the finger as you’ll wear it, and account for the wedding band’s width. If unsure, size the band to comfortably pass the knuckle with both rings on. See our wide-band guide for the exact bump to add.
Frequently asked questions
Is the wedding band the same size as the engagement ring?
Usually yes, since they share a finger. Adjust only if the wedding band is much wider (size up a quarter to half size) or you’ll stack several rings.
Do I size up for a wide wedding band?
Yes. Wide bands (6 mm+) fit tighter, so go up about a quarter size for 5–7 mm and a half size for 8 mm and wider.
